The pipeline,
in plain language.

CultureTerminal monitors 151 sources continuously. This is what happens between a published article and a signal brief entry.

  • 01 CultureTerminal monitors 151 sources continuously via RSS and structured feeds, checking for new articles across eight culture domains in real time.
  • 02 Each article is scored for cultural relevance and lead time across five factors: relevance, freshness, source authority, brand signal, and depth.
  • 03 Only the highest-scoring articles become signals. Roughly 25 articles from 1,975 reviewed per edition make it to the brief. That is a 1.3% inclusion rate.
  • 04 Every signal in every edition links to its original source. The article, the publication, the date. No paraphrase without attribution.
  • 05 The source is always one click away. If something is wrong in the brief, you can check the primary material immediately. That accountability is the point.

The full source list (all 151) is managed by CultureTerminal. This page shows the 63 that have made the brief across 80 editions.

Top three account
for 39.5% of signals.

19.5%
Business of Fashion share of total signals

Business of Fashion alone accounts for 78 of 400 signal appearances (19.5%). This reflects the signal density of fashion coverage, not editorial bias. BoF breaks more culturally-relevant news per week than almost any other publication in this feed.

TechCrunch (41) and Hypebeast (39) complete the top three, with tech and street culture as the twin engines of contemporary cultural signal. Together the three account for 158 of 400 appearances across 80 editions.

The remaining 60.5% of signals are distributed across 60 other publications, with most appearing between 1 and 17 times. Concentration at the top is real, but the long tail is wide.

What we
filter out.

Most articles in the 151-source feed are filtered before they reach the brief. The pipeline scores each article for cultural relevance, recency, and lead-time potential. An article about a product recall or earnings miss will not appear as a signal, even from a tier-1 source, unless it has cultural implications beyond the business story.

1.3% Inclusion rate across all editions
~25 signals from 1,975 articles reviewed per edition

The filter is intentional. A brief that included every interesting article from 151 sources would be 400 items long and useless. The curation is the product. What gets filtered is as deliberate as what stays in.

The pipeline does not filter by geography, brand size, or publication prestige. A niche trade piece that scores high on cultural lead time will outrank a reactive feature from a legacy masthead. Signal value is the only criterion.

Every Signal Links Back

Follow the trail
on any call we make.

Each signal in every edition links directly to the source article. The publication, the date, the original text. You never have to take our word for it.
