What it means

Ownership of creative tools beats ownership of creative output.

Netflix paying $587 million for Ben Affleck's InterPositive, China ruling on emotional detachment from AI, and unusually cohesive political giving by OpenAI and Anthropic staff all move the contest for creative culture upstream. The fight is less over content than over the systems beneath it: the post-production tool, the rules for synthetic personality and the politics of regulation. Whoever controls the layer beneath the creative act shapes what that act can become.

One to watch

Netflix will announce that InterPositive's AI post-production tooling is integrated into at least one publicly named original production pipeline before end of Q4 2026.
